The Historyfrom the company archives

The beginnings of VARI, a.s. reach till 1912 when Mr. Antonin Jelinek from a village of Patek near Podebrady took over blacksmith and shoeing smith trade. He also repaired and manufactured agricultural machines.

A contract on purchase of a licence for manufacturing of block-unit (modular) system of small agricultural machinery “Terra” with Gutbrod was concluded at the beginning of 1969.

After the expiration of the licence from Gutbrod in 1987, it was necessary to change the brand name. A modernized version of TERRA is manufactured under the brand name VARI System from this year. With the change of the brand name, the machines were modernized based on the experience gathered in previous years and the quality of the machines was even improved. The parameters are better, the losses in the transmissions lower, however there was no reason for any deep changes as the TERRA System proved to be very good. The main features were kept, for example the connecting elements, which means that it is possible to fully combine TERRA and VARI. More than 550 000 customers in the Czech Republic, but not only there, can confirm the reliability and quality of these useful helpers for farming and professional use. Based on its robustness and the simple system of active accessories connecting, it is possible to use VARI for small communal machinery, too.

The co-operation with HONDA started in 1992 as MEPOL (which was then the name of the company) was looking for a quality 4-stroke engine for its new model. The new model VARI-Honda was introduced and its production started after testing in 1993.

In 1994 the manufacturing plant MEPOL in Libice nad Cidlinou was privatized and BG TECHNIK, the sole representative of HONDA Power Equipment for the Czech Republic, became the new owner. The manufacturing plant in Libice nad Cidlinou was significantly extended and modernized after the privatisation. The most important investment was a building of new modern paintshop. Such investments enabled increase in quality of the products and introduction of new products.

From 1997 the product range is step-by-step widened with hobby machines, namely modular system of small garden machinery PONY (with a possibility to carry both passive and active accessories) and single-purpose machines ADELA (drum mower for high-grown grass), TRIMMER (brushcutter on wheels) and more products are being developed.

In 1999 the company was renamed to VARI, a.s.
